travel guide of GIZA (EGYPT)
Giza, one of the most appealing destinations in Egypt, situated to
the west of Cairo is the last remaining of the seven wonders of the
world . The famous pyramids of Giza represent the civilizations and
history of ancient Egypt and giving it a visit is worth it.
With the rapid increase in tourist from all over, Giza has been transformed to those pioneering tourism destinations of late 19th
century. Apartment blocks, restaurants, retail outlets and night clubs
have replaced what used to be the farmer’s fields, and the city has now
spread to the limit of desert plateau. Such improvements were not
possible without the interest of Egypt Tourism Councils taking deep
interest in the development in areas close to the ancient pyramids.
Of all the great pyramids those which attract the visitors most are
the Khufu (Cheops), Khafre and Menkaur. Numerous Queens pyramid and
Noble temples are also a major source of appeal to the local and
international tourists. Although not all the destinations are open to be
viewed from inside by tourist, still the supreme tourist council closes
them once a year for renovation purposes. The making and architectural
designs of these pyramids leave the public at large stunned, and they
are seen praising it all points.
These pyramids are known to be built by the earliest civilization on
earth, thousands of years ago. Although, making of these wonders is
still undecided still most believed that it is not the work of anyone
but humans. It is believed that nearly more than 15000 laborers took
part in the making of pyramid Khufu. Almost every person on earth makes
it as the greatest creation on earth by man kind.
Travelling in Giza is very easy these days. There are a number of
means of transport that take you safely to Giza. The most popular are
Metro, Taxi and Bus. Metro line runs from Cairo to Giza and drop you to a
nearby station in Giza, from where you can easily reach your
destination. There are metered and unmetered taxis at your disposal,
which are mostly air-conditioned, and easily available all over the
city. Further, the bus would be a good option too, with buses running
every 20 minutes from the airport. Choosing a better and convenient
source of transport is at one’s own discretion.
Numerous western restaurants present in Giza make your tour more
pleasant. Opposite to the main ticket gate you can have a feast in KFC
and Pizza hut and enjoy the view of thousands of year old Sphinx across
the road. Further, the fish market located on the Nile, Mena House
Oberoi Hotel (a restaurant with the history of delicious food for over a
century now) is the examples of places worth visiting. Being a Muslim
country alcohol is prohibited, but is only served in the hotels.
Accommodations are limited in Giza and people give priority to Cairo,
but for those people to whom cost is not an issue, they stay close to
the vicinity. The famous hotel Oberoi, built in 1869 for King Ismail,
has housed many guests, as it is close to the pyramids. The main pyramid
gate is only 5 minutes walk away.
