Cape Town is the capital city of South Africa. The
Portuguese Bartholomew Diaz sailed around the southern tip already in
1488 the African continent, in 1497 Vasco da Gama sailed to India, his
journey around it. However, only António de Saldanha in 1503 was at
anchor in Table Bay. Between Europe and the Far East developed a brisk
trade relationship. However, the ships to India, four to six months were
out, many of the sailors suffered from scurvy and other deficiency
symptoms often fatal, because they ran out on the long journey the fresh
food. Located halfway between Europe and India, the Table Bay one of
the few places where you could safely drop anchor, and thus well suited
to take fresh provisions here. This was recognized by Jan van Riebeeck, a
Dutch settler who founded the city.

The Cape Town International Airport is
the second largest airport in South Africa after the airport in
Johannesburg . Almost all the airports in the country, major cities in
neighboring countries and some destinations in Europe and Asia served by
direct flights. Thus, Lufthansa flies in collaboration with South
African Airways nonstop from Frankfurt to Cape Town, and the LTU from
Dusseldorf and Munich. Edelweiss / Belair occasionally flies from Zurich
to Cape Town. KLM via Amsterdam several times a week and British
Airways via London for a day without a stop in Cape Town. The U.S. is
also to reach Cape Town, with South African Airlines, in cooperation
with United Airlines. Qatar Airways to fly via Doha with a stopover in
Johannesburg to Cape Town.
The airport is located about 20
kilometers from the city center. At the airport there are several ATMs
(including debit cards) and car rental locations in the arrivals area.
Are also plenty of taxis outside the terminal. One should however be
careful to use an official taxi. This may initially be more expensive
though, but it is definitely more reliable. In private taxi you have to
expect that that is unnecessary detours down and pushed so the price up.
Cape
Town is situated on two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. The
