Whale Watching Tour from Brisbane
For your exciting Whale Watching Tour from Brisbane, you will be picked up by coach from selected Brisbane locations – Holiday Inn (Roma Street); Rendezvous Hotel (Ann Street); Bunk Backpackers (Gipps Street, Fortitude Valley) at around 0700h (07:00am).
At around 0830h (8:30am), you will arrive at the wharf at Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, where you board your whale-watching boat. Tea and biscuits are served as you come aboard. After a brief (and often entertaining) safety induction, you will set off on your ocean adventure.
The vessel Mahi Mahi, is modern, large and spacious and specifically designed for whale watching. Three large viewing decks offer unobstructed viewing of whales, dolphins and other marine life. The ship is the only Gold Coast Whale Watching vessel with a unique water level viewing platform providing guests with the closest humpback whale encounters possible.
The tour starts with a scenic canal cruise down the Nerang River. Gaze at the spectacular architecture as the crew point out the extravagant homes of the rich and famous. Your cruise continues past beautiful South Stradbroke Island to the nearby waters of the Australian Whale Sanctuary.
Every year between May and October, more than 12,000 humpback whales migrate to these warm sub-tropical waters to mate and give birth. They are thrilling animals to watch because they often leap right out of the water, a type of behavior known as ‘breaching’.
The calm winter waters off the Gold Coast are also home to bottlenose dolphins, giant loggerhead turtles, killer whales and various sea birds. An on-board marine scientist will provide a fascinating commentary on everything you see.
By about 1230h (12:30pm) you will be back at the wharf. You then leave the boat and have 2 hours to sightsee around Surfers Paradise.
At 1430h (2:30pm), you board your coach for the journey back to Brisbane. You will be dropped back at the pick-up point at around 1530h (3:30pm).
